Saturday taster days - a drop-in seat chair

This friendly and industrious one-day workshop is designed to introduce students to traditional upholstery skills while reupholstering an antique or vintage chair which they can take home at the end of the day. Students will be provided with an antique or vintage drop-in seat style chair. The task is to build up the seat pad using traditional materials such as hair, hessian and calico, finishing it with their own top fabric.

As all the chairs we source are pre-loved and old, we cannot guarantee a particular style, however they mostly tend to be from the Edwardian period. They can be polished to a high sheen, painted, waxed or even gilded when you get home. They make pretty and useful chairs for bedrooms, bathrooms.. wherever you please. Of course, if you have your own drop-in chair and it is suitable for the course, then do bring it!

Starting and 9.30am and finishing at 5pm, your tutors will teach you how to rebuild the pad using traditional materials including horse hair, hessian and calico. As well as the chair, hand tools and all sundries are provided. All you need to bring is pretty top fabric and a packed lunch. Tea, coffee and a full biscuit tin are guaranteed. It's a treat!
